Centrale Foro Italico

The design proposal aims to transform the Foro Italico Tennis Stadium from an outdoor infrastructure to an indoor infrastructure that can be used not only for tennis matches and other sports, but also for different types of activities and cultural and entertainment events. The involucre is designed as a structurally independent shell structure that encompasses and closes the existing building, fully respecting its physical integrity. The structure of a portion of the shell will be translucent and it will be openable above the playing field, guaranteeing both waterproof and thermal sealing. The handling system will allow rapid opening-closing, remaining compatible with the surrounding context in both configurations (open and closed), also considering the point of view of the building from the perspective of Monte Mario. The project provides for a morphological and functional coherence of the external areas around the Tennis Stadium, through a landscape project integrated with the new structure and with the existing ones.
